"I have experience at university, uh, I had to do an oral in front of the whole class, it was in front of maybe fifty people and, (I told you earlier) that I was the only black person in my classes) and it was my first time during the oral I felt so much anxiety, and I knew that it wasn't because I was shy, that I didn't know my oral work, it was... (sigh) it was because I often felt so isolated in the class, I think I've already spoken about it (I don't know who I spoke to)..."
“I could say that it left some bruises in me or... maybe less now, because I've worked on myself, but at one point it really affected the confidence I had in myself and also in the other non-black, non-diverse person. Because when you experience several episodes of racism, well, you feel that, I too have traveled and everything, but it's hard to find your place no matter where you go, you know? We wonder if we're not always inadequate, if it's us? If it's the system? We'll look at systemic racism or I tell myself that maybe it's me...
