USTAWI

Our flagship activities

Led by experienced instructors, these workshops offer young people a space for learning and participatory discussion. They aim to:

  • Consolidate incomplete knowledge,
  • Deconstruct stereotypes,
  • Offer practical tools and tips to better understand and manage mental health issues.

Topics covered:

Taboos and stigmas related to mental health

Racism and Mental Health in Quebec

Mental health in the context of cultural diversity

Mental health and immigration

Black women, stereotypes and mental health

Colonization and intergenerational trauma

Coping strategies and available resources

Take part in our upcoming workshops and come and chat with other young people like you!

Inspired by Paulo Freire’s culture circles and indigenous traditions, these intimate spaces (5 to 10 participants) encourage free, authentic, and respected expression.
Each circle takes place in a confidential and secure setting, allowing everyone to express their experiences at their own pace.

Identified themes:

Healing Invisible Trauma

Being Seen, Being Targeted: Experiences of Racial Profiling

Placed trajectories and overrepresentation in youth protection

No one is safe: drug addiction and homelessness

Cyberhate and identity drift: impacts on mental health

Misunderstood, isolated: when sexual identities weigh on the mind

My beliefs, my loved ones: taking care of your mental health every day

Join a talking circle and discover the power of
sharing with confidence.

These focus groups allow us to gather young people’s opinions, perceptions, and representations of mental health.
The goal is to better understand:

How young people perceive and express their mental health to those close to them.

What adaptation strategies do they use?

What obstacles do they encounter in their communities or with existing services?

Share your experience and contribute to a better understanding of the mental health of young Afro-Quebecers.

So that this voice carries even further:

Attend our events and add your story to the conversation.
